Why Investing in Coaches and Community Matters

In sports, we often talk about the players; their talent, potential, and dreams. But behind every athlete, there’s a support system shaping their journey: their coaches, their clubs, their schools, and the broader community they grow up in.

This past week, I had the privilege of being part of two meaningful basketball events in Catalunya: leading the warm-up at the All-Star Game clinic in Sant Fruites de Bages (Manresa), and sponsoring Coaches Night in Barcelona, where local coaches came together for a night of camaraderie, fun, and celebration.

What struck me most wasn’t just the basketball. It was the culture.

One thing I admire deeply about organizations like Copa Colegial is how they create the culture they want to see. They don’t wait for perfect systems or ideal conditions... they make things happen.

That’s why I chose to sponsor the jerseys for Coaches Night. Not because anyone asked me to, but because I believe coaches are one of the most important influences in a child’s life.

On the court, they’re the person kids look to for guidance; learning how to lead, follow, play a role, overcome challenges, solve problems, and work together. It’s one of the few moments in a child’s day when they are fully engaged, focused, and listening to life lessons that will stick with them for years.
